SPIN-ORBIT COUPLING EFFECTS IN BrO AND HOBr PHOTODISSOCIATION REACTIONS

چکیده

Potential energy curves of the ground and a few excited states of the BrO and HOBr along the photodissociation reactions, which correlate with lower dissociation limits are obtained on the base of calculations results by ab initio method. The singlet-triplet nonadiabatic transition with dissociation of the ground ХΣ state to lower limit О(Р) + Br(S) is predicted on the basis of calculations results. The ground singlet ХΣ state of the BrO has predissociative and metastable character for the upper vibrational levels. It is shown that the singlet-triplet transition to the lower triplet state aA′′←XA′ is responsible for a weak HOBr absorption in the visible region (440–650 nm).

Disproportionation of bromous acid HOBrO by direct O-transfer and via anhydrides O(BrO)2 and BrO-BrO2. An ab initio study of the mechanism of a key step of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky oscillating reaction.

The results are reported of an ab initio study of the thermochemistry and of the kinetics of the HOBrO disproportionation reaction 2HOBrO (2) ⇄ HOBr (1) + HBrO(3) (3), reaction ( R4' ), in gas phase (MP2(full)/6-311G*) and aqueous solution (SMD(MP2(full)/6-311G*)). The reaction energy of bromous acid disproportionation is discussed in the context of the coupled reaction system R2-R4 of the FKN ...

Enhanced bromate formation during chlorination of bromide-containing waters in the presence of CuO: catalytic disproportionation of hypobromous acid.

Bromate (BrO(3)(-)) in drinking water is traditionally seen as an ozonation byproduct from the oxidation of bromide (Br(-)), and its formation during chlorination is usually not significant. This study shows enhanced bromate formation during chlorination of bromide-containing waters in the presence of cupric oxide (CuO). CuO was effective to catalyze hypochlorous acid (HOCl) or hypobromous acid...

Modeling the observed tropospheric BrO background: Importance of multiphase chemistry and implications for ozone, OH, and mercury

Aircraft and satellite observations indicate the presence of ppt (ppt ≡ pmol/mol) levels of BrO in the free troposphere with important implications for the tropospheric budgets of ozone, OH, and mercury. We can reproduce these observations with the GEOS-Chem global tropospheric chemistry model by including a broader consideration of multiphase halogen (Br-Cl) chemistry than has been done in the...

Detection of HBr and upper limit for HOBr: Bromine partitioning in the stratosphere

We determine mixing ratio profiles for HBr and upper limits for HOBr in the stratosphere with precisions up to 1.7 and 4.8 parts per trillion, respectively, using the combined data from 7 flights of our far-infrared spectrometer. The measurements suggest that in the range 22–34 km the average mixing ratio of HBr is 2 0 0 8, and that the average mixing ratio of HOBr is less than 2 8 ppt. Our mea...
